Band of Brothers Fill the Gap

Soldiers cradling Christian
Though Uplift focuses on good news, its practically impossible for the bad news to stay completely out. Without the bad, how would we know what good is? Furthermore, we find that often uplifting stories are born out of tragedy with humankind rallying around one another to get through a tough time. This is one of those instances as US Army Specialist Chris Harris was killed by a suicide bomber while on deployment in Afghanistan shortly after finding out his wife at home was pregnant.

Left a widow so young with a child on the way Harris' bride, Britt had to think about what her husband would want her to do. It didn't take long for her to reach out to his "brotherhood" of "extended family"  knowing how much Chris depended upon them and they were happy to fill the gaps. A heartwarming video of the soldiers doing a gender reveal ceremony can be seen as pink confetti flies through the air and soldiers celebrate with dabs and joyful shouts.

Like a wink from God Himself, the baby was born on the exact same day his army brothers returned from deployment and was named Christian Michelle Harris in honor of her fallen father. The event was commemorated with passing the sweet newborn around along with a photoshoot of the men paying homage to their fallen buddy and his widowed wife. Specialist Harris got the original news of Britt being pregnant when she sent a photo of a handmade onesie that said, "Chris you're going to be a dad!" In the photo above with the band of brothers she wears a new onesie that says, "My Daddy's my hero." with angel wings adorning the phrase and dad's dog-tags around her neck. While a dad is impossible to replace in many ways, we salute these men for doing their part and pray they continue to be part of Christian's life.
