Are You Angry & Frustrated?

Image
I admit it. I struggle with anger and frustration on a fairly constant basis. I think most men do although I know its not relegated to just us guys alone. Part of the prevalence might be tied to the fact that its one of the only emotions apart from happiness that men are allowed to feel. Most emotions outside of these two get you made fun of with descriptions like "soft" or "pansy" being hurled your way. So we tend to embrace anger early on and maybe even use it as a one-tone expression of many other emotions like a camouflaged tarp of sorts. Doing this allows us to hide the root of the true issue and avoid the potential assault of your manliness. It gets worse, at least for me. On some level I have managed to embrace my anger and frustration as mostly justified and a badge of honor. Allow me to elaborate and invite you to introspectively decide whether or not you can relate. First off, anger in and of itself is not a sin. Verses like Ephesians 4:26 state to ...

Jimmy Darts, Mending Hearts

Image
Every TikTok video starts out the same. A challenge is issued by Jimmy's audience that he reads aloud and accepts. These challenges are typically a way to test the kindness or tolerance levels of strangers. One example might be going down a neighborhood street knocking on doors asking to use their shower. While many otherwise kind people might still turn him down, given that he is a stranger, he always seems to find that loving person who bends over backwards for him regardless of the audacity of his request. As a reward, Darts usually gives a minimum of $500 all of which is donated to him by his audience. Call it a kindness prank of sorts but one click on his videos will send you down an endless binge-fest of his content as it restores faith in humanity with every new post.  Jimmy Darts, AKA Jimmy Kellogg Often times Jimmy gets to know the people in his videos on a deeper level. They are so touched by his gesture that an outflow of trust becomes the norm and soon they are telling ...

Walking The Walk

Image
As Christians we rightfully make bold claims. Our Father created the entire universe, all of the earth, then decided to create us, AND to make us in His image. Sure, we live in an imperfect world but He is mightier than the fallen state of affairs. To prove it He sent His son to ultimately fix what we so horribly broke. Our identity in Christ also allows a certain boldness you don't typically find in the average non-believer or other religious follower. He overcame death that we might live. He gives us a new identity that we can approach the throne of God like children rather than broken beggars riddled with sin. But what happens when our boldness is challenged and life drops an atomic bomb on us? Do we fold and run? Do we become consumed with anxiety and resentment? Do we just talk the talk or can we actually walk the walk? Those questions are hard for me to answer personally and quite honestly I am not inviting a bomb to land on my lap as a means of testing. However, that exact ...

A Childlike Faith

Image
Paige with her police pals  Paige Vazquez is both wise and mature beyond her years with a Christian faith that just oozes in her daily interactions with others. So it should be no surprise that she would see a group of policemen sitting at a restaurant table and offer to pray for them. But because that kind of gesture is so rare, even for adults, it caught the attention of onlookers who snapped a photo of this heartwarming interaction and made it go viral on social media. In a climate where we argue about who's life matters most and efforts to demonize and defund the police are rampant, its a breath of fresh air to see that people still care and especially children like Vazquez.  "I know they have a rough time sometimes. And sometimes a little prayer could make someone's day, so I decided to do that in case they were having a rough day," says Paige when reporters asked about the motivation to boldly approach their table. Little did she know that this specific group of...
